Almost half of all travelers — 48 percent — said rising gas prices are their No. 1 frustration when they hit the road, according to the Access America Traveler Frustration Survey conducted in June. That’s up from 29 percent in the same poll last November.
What changed since the November Access America poll?
The price of gas in November ’07 averaged $3.064 a gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. By this June that price had gone up by almost a dollar to $3.989 a gallon.
As frustration over gas prices soared, other problems seemed to fade. The survey showed fewer people complaining about traffic issues, flight delays, and security checks, among other frustrations.
Here are how the annoyances ranked.
| Nov | Jun | |
|---|---|---|
| gas prices | 29% | 48% |
| traffic | 18% | 12% |
| flight delays | 8% | 3% |
| security | 7% | 5% |
The survey is commissioned by Access America, a travel insurance provider, and is conducted by IPSOS, a research company that interviewed 923 adults on the phone for the most recent poll. The survey has been conducted quarterly since August 2007.
